THINKING ABOUT JOINING US?

The Life and Mission Choir welcomes anyone. We are a Christian choir - open to EVERYONE AND ANYONE with a love of singing.

So how much will it cost me?

Nothing. There are no fees. However, most regular members make a voluntary contribution (either monthly or weekly) to help cover the heating and lighting costs of our rehearsal venue.

Are there auditions?

No auditions. It helps if you can hold a tune though!

What do I get to help me learn the songs?

For most songs, you will get a score (the written music). However, if you don't read music like many of our members, you can opt to just have the words. Some people have both!

We also have a members area of our website, where you can listen to or download learning tracks of the current songs we are rehearsing. We can also cater for those less technically minded with CDs or other resources. We always endeavor to make singing in our choir as accessible as possible for anyone. We are always welcome to suggestions of ways we can improve.

When and where do you rehearse?

We rehearse on Friday evenings from 8pm - 9:30pm at Christchurch, Friern Barnet and New Southgate, Baptist/URC at the junction of Friern Barnet Road and Bellevue Road N11 3EP. There is a car park. (We usually stick to term time rehearsals.)

Woah - hang on a minute? Friday evening?

Despite it being the end of the working week for many, we've found that our members look forward to rounding their week off with a bit of singing and socialising, rather than in front of the TV. It refreshes them for the weekend. Why not come along one Friday and see if it works for you?

“Led by a few really talented singers, we have lots of fun rehearsing, gradually pick up some musical skills, and when it all comes together in a concert – wow! – that’s like a new dimension!”

Are there people like me in your choir?

Probably. Our youngest at the moment is 16 and our oldest is rumoured to be over 90! Most members, but not all, come from churches in Hertfordshire and North London.  We have people from many different backgrounds and fellowships - Anglicans, Catholics, Baptists, Methodists, United Reformed Church and others  - and members who are not part of a church too. We begin and end each rehearsal with prayer.

Is there a chance to socialise and get to know people?

Absolutely. Every rehearsal ends with refreshments - tea/coffee/juice etc along with biscuits and the odd cake when its someone's birthday!

If I come along once, do I have to commit?

No. We do get excited when new people come through the door (sorry about that) but there is no obligation to join. You can come for a taster anytime.

"The LMC is more than just a choir - it's a family, where everyone cares. "
Do I have to be there every week?

No. We understand that everyone has busy lives and other commitments. We hope you can come along as often as possible. If we are working towards a performances or presentation, then there is an expectation that you have been to enough rehearsals to know what you're doing!

Okay, so what should I do now?

We'd be happy to welcome you to a Friday rehearsal anytime. You might want to speak to someone first to check we are meeting on the day you want to come. Contact details are below.

If you have any questions not covered  here, please get in touch and we'll do our best to answer them.

"All I can say is that I am hanging on to LMC because of the warm fellowship and friendship laced with God’s Grace."

A little bit of history...

If you want to sing Verdi's Requiem or Bach's Mass in B Minor then we're probably not what you're looking for. However, we like to keep our repetoire varied. As a choir we have premiered a number of original and successful home grown musicals, written by our musical director Paul Wardrop-Day. These musicals have toured many churches across London and the South East, as well as further afield, and are still going strong, moving audiences and sharing the message of Jesus.

We have been going for 25 years. We have led worship at many churches in North London, presented Christian musicals, Broadway style concerts, community events, had parties and eaten a lot of quiche. We also love singing a wide range of music in many styles.  We are happy to welcome anyone with enthusiasm and a need to smile, sing and worship.
